Accuracy of Cervical Intraepithelial Lesion Diagnosis by Visual Cervical Examination with Acetic Acid

Introduction: Using acetic acid to inspect the vaginal canal is a simple screening procedure done with naked eye. During speculum examination, cervical transformation zone painted 3% 5% or vinegar. Objective: This study aims measure effectiveness economical test, visual inspection (VIA), for diagnosing intraepithelial lesions comparison gold standard histopathology using population women attending gynecology outpatient department. Study Design: The cross-sectional design validate findings. Area: was conducted Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, Women Children Teaching Hospital, Dera Ismail Khan. Duration: took place between November 2018 April 2019. Materials Methods: included 414 abnormal bleeding. Under good light source, lubricated Cusco's introduced into vagina evaluate cervix gross abnormalities. A cotton swab apply acetowhite changes were observed one minute. Positive results considered when distinct areas detected, while negative light, faint, doubtful aceto-white detected. Results: There range age from 18 40 years this mean 30.772 weight 71.644 kilograms. For diagnosis lesions, examination has shown sensitivity 84.38%, specificity 97.11%, diagnostic accuracy 95%, PPV NPV 97.11% (p=0.000). Practical implication: purpose compare efficacy inexpensive group gynecological service. Cervical leading cause death among countries, where access advanced tools limited. If VIA proves an effective tool, it could widely implemented low-resource settings improve detection treatment Conclusion: appropriate alternative large population.
